Xiexin Dance Theatre

From the most populous city in the world, Shanghai, comes Xiexin. Since its creation in 2014, Xiexin Dance Theatre has gradually established itself as one of the leading companies in the development of contemporary dance in China. The company, led by choreographer Xie Xin, focuses on body research, raising awareness of contemporary dance and creating original works.

"As humans, one of the reasons we share common memories is that we meet at the same time and place. This creates a special bond without which we would only live parallel lives, in different places..." Xie Xin.

To understand all the poetry that Xie Xin rewrites to the gestures of this refined dance, it is necessary to be immersed in Chinese culture. The choreography of From IN has its origins in Chinese calligraphy and in particular in the ideogram ⼈ meaning "human". Xie Xin's attention is focused on the point of contact between the two lines that make up the ideogram, whose strokes go in opposite directions.

This point constitutes the meeting of two possibilities and a site of exchange between opposites. It is a place of connection that is at the center of relationships with others.

With From IN, Xie Xin immerses us in a sensitive space-time in which layers of memories are constantly superimposed. Her dancers appear and disappear like ghostly figures in an enigmatic and elegant unity made of both tradition and modernity.
