Ailey II

The company, known for fusing the spirit and energy of America's young talent, celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Begun in 1974 as the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, the company embodies Alvin Ailey's pioneering mission to bring dance to a broad cultural community by facilitating dance performances and training programs aimed at all audiences.

Under the leadership of Sylvia Waters, who served as artistic director for 38 seasons, Ailey II became one of the most popular modern dance companies, combining a rigorous touring schedule with extensive community outreach programs.

Today, under Artistic Director Francesca Harper, it brings fresh perspectives to Mr. Ailey's legacy while nurturing the company with new creative voices from emerging choreographers.

Hooked by the passion conveyed by its dancers, the young American dance company returns to LaFACT Cultural with new choreography following its sizzling success in 2018 and 2019.
